Summer is here.  Are you ready?

Even though mother nature hasn’t quite come to terms with it, summer is technically here. Are you ready to brave that seatbelt burn? Have you refilled the gas tank for your BBQ? Have you prepared your pool? Have you stocked up on sunscreen? If you’re not ready, get it together! Summer is officially here.

Here are a few suggestions from the team at Ultimo to make your summer more relaxing.

Our Top Summer Tips

Tip 1:  Fresh Cherry & Lemon Popsicles

Grab a few handfuls of cherries and separate the flesh from the pip. Squeeze 2 large lemons. Pop 2 handfuls of cherry flesh, fresh lemon juice and 200ml of water into a blender (nutri-bullet preferred) and mix until most cherry bits have disappeared. Pour the liquid into an ice tray. It’s best to find a stick shaped tray like this one as they’ll act as popsicles.

Freeze for a few hours and enjoy.

Tip 2: Farmers Markets

Summer season brings in the summer fruit. Mangos, nectarines, peaches, apricots, passionfruit, plums, pawpaw and grapes. Drooling yet? Produce is much fresher and cheaper than large grocery stores. Check out the link to find your local farmers market thanks to The Urban List.

Tip 3: Outdoor Cinemas

Indoor cinemas are for the gloomy winter days. Why don’t you try heading to a drive in or an outdoor cinema during the summer? Pop some corn at home, gather your favourite snacks and pack an esky.

Galaxy drive- in cinema

A taste of the 50’s. Showcasing new releases, you can either sit in the car or pop open the trunk (hot tip: bring some pillows and a blanket to turn the trunk into ultimate comfort)

Telethon outdoor community cinema:

A movie for a cause. Showcasing new releases every night from the 29th of November. Grab a meal from the food trucks, mould into a bean bag and get comfortable. Bring a blanket though. It gets chilly.

Moonlight outdoor cinema:

A cheese platter, some wine and a blockbuster in the beautiful gardens of Kings Park. What a win.

Tip 4: The Perfect Summer Tunes

If you’re chilling by the pool, or at the beach, the perfect music makes for the perfect day.

Spotify creates awesome playlists to suit any occasion and any mood. Here’s a few summer playlists. Have a listen:

  • Tropical House
  • Chill Out Music
  • Poolside Party
  • Reggae Classics
  • Soak Up the Sun

Tip 5: Iced Coffee Shake

The heat is exhausting and you’re going to need a kick to wake you up. A coffee would be nice but it’s way too hot. Not a worry.  If you have a coffee machine, make a shot or two of espresso in a large glass with some ice or dissolve instant coffee in a small amount of boiling water. Pop a scoop of vanilla ice-cream, 100ml of milk (or a substitute), a few ice cubes and the coffee into a blender. Blend for 10 seconds (or until ice is crushed into small pieces).

Shake it and sip it.

Alternatively, if you don’t fancy something heavy, you can try a carbonated cold brew coffee with some fruit. Say whaaat?! Yep and it actually tastes good. Print Hall (Perth) and Addison & Steele (North Perth) offer the goods. Check them out on Instagram.

Tip 6: Frozen Rum & Watermelon Stars

Watermelon means summer. When someone says watermelon, you’ll often envision yourself sipping a cocktail in the tropics with freshly sliced watermelon by your side (guilty).

These rum and watermelon stars will be your new summer besties.

Cut up a quarter watermelon (skin off) and pop it into the blender with 60ml of your preferred rum. If you accidently pour the whole bottle in, we won’t tell. Blend together and pour into star shaped ice trays. Wait a few hours and enjoy on its own or in a glass of soda water and a squeeze of lime. If you’re feeling fancy, garnish with some mint. It makes the perfect insta photo.

Tip 7: Summer party galore

The summer season gives you more reason to party. With a party comes preparation. Let’s take the load off. You can sit back and soak in the beautiful sun while we cater your party. Here are a few things we can do for your summer event.
