The Reinvention of Wedding Catering
It’s a food revolution! No, we aren’t talking about that time in the 90’s where people thought mini pickles were sophisticated hors d’oeuvres. Not surprisingly, Ultimo Catering are all about FOOD – an area often overlooked by wedding blogs in favour for pretty dresses & accessories. So, we bring you …
Five Ideas for Reinventing Wedding Catering.
Food is a hugely important aspect of your big day, a large proportion of your budget goes towards it and the quality of your food will definitely be remembered by your guests. Your wedding catering should really reflect your personal tastes and your menu should be a celebration of you as a couple. Think outside the box and challenge your caterer to create something truly magical for your big day! Here are our top 5 ideas to feed your imagination…
1. THE NEW CANAPÉ
Canapé are like little treats from heaven at weddings – The first morsel of food your guests are likely to have eaten since breakfast (and whilst they are still sober!). Here’s some of our favourites:
ELEGANT SPOONS – Traditional & classy spoon canapés always look fantastic. Like Confit duck, bitter orange & pecan crumble and our deliciously fresh seared prawn, chilli, garlic, parsley & cous cous pearls.
RETRO COOL – For those looking to insert some old school fun into your day think mini Pulled pork burgers, with chipotle mayo & pickled veg and crispy fish & chip cones, with tangy wasabi mayo.
QUIRKY CLASSICS – Twists on classic favourites are hard to beat. Chicken & mushroom 3 bite pie, with golden gruyere and herb & parmesan crumbed lamb cutlets are always a crowd pleaser.
2. BOWL FOOD
Ideal if you are looking to host an informal relaxed celebration without the traditional three course meal. Guests are served a number of small dishes – almost like a roving entrée. This is a great way of serving your guest a selection of flavours if you are struggling to decide on just three courses. TIP: Tie in some bowl items with a seated main for those wanting to retain a bit of traditional fair. Our favourite: Sous vide veal tenderloin, royal blue potato velvet & veal glaze.
3. FESTIVAL FOOD / LIVE CUISINE STATIONS
Creatively fusing the current trend for street-inspired food, gourmet food stalls offer a creative, delicious and fun addition to weddings and parties. Some of our favourites include; Sliders & ciders, Spanish paella or a Mexican fiesta.
4. GRAZING STATIONS
More and more couples are opting to serve fun and informal starters which encourage guests to interact with one another – such as beautiful abundant grazing stations filled with the finest mezze style eats. Not to mention they look incredible.
CHEESE TOWER CAKE – Many brides are swapping their Red Velvet for Blue Vein – A fantastic savoury cake alternative. Also, a great way to incorporate a supper hour, after your guests have had a few drinks.
5. WET THE WHISTLE
You can’t go wrong serving bubbly to your guests, however if you are looking to shake up the celebrations don’t be afraid to serve alternative tipples – Pimms jugs with fresh cucumber & strawberries, or a refreshing lemonade cocktail are great options for a summer wedding.
Food is at the heart of our philosophy at Ultimo catering & Events – Whether it’s beautifully displayed canapés or gorgeous live cuisine stations, we are not afraid to go against the grain and offer something unique for your wedding catering. It’s hugely important to remember to have fun with your food, take your time choosing a range of your favourite menu options and most importantly talk to your caterer – they know what’s up …. Or at least we do 🙂
